The Security System
A few months ago, Rance went away on a business trip to Colorado for two nights. While I would miss him, I was looking forward to two days of uninterrupted writing time.
He left on Monday morning, and I made it a point to finish as much writing as possible before turning off my computer for the day. I stopped working around 5:30. With Rance away, I was eager to indulge in some true crime shows while I enjoyed my dinner. Rance isn’t a fan of true crime, so I don’t really watch them when we are together.
As the gruesome scenes unfolded on the screen, it became darker and darker outside. I started getting tired and turned the TV off around 11:00 to get ready for bed. As soon as I laid my head down, every noise I heard became amplified. I started to get anxious, thinking about someone (a murderer, of course!) trying to get inside.
